School Support Pack
We help schools support pupil mental health.
Below you will find recourses to give parents so they can better support their child or teen if they’re struggling with emotions, behaviour and mental health.

Do you have parents who want to better support a child or teenager at your school who is struggling with emotions, behaviour, school-avoidance, self-harm or mental health?

We’ve developed a pack of free resources that you can share with parents.
You may want to give them to specific parents, but we also recommend that you share it in an email, newsletter and via your school’s social media so it’s seen by parents of all year groups, as instances of pupil mental health go unreported or are experienced by other siblings. We recommend sharing the resources at least once a year, as pupils can start to struggle at any time. You’re also welcome to put these resources on your school’s website.
The School Support Pack includes:

Flyer inviting parents to
enrol on the Horizon Plan
Our free online course that guides parents to support a child/teen struggling with mental health.

Booklet on supporting a
child who self-harms
An inspiring story of a parent who supported her teenage daughter’s recovery from mental health and self harm.

Flyer inviting parents to join
our Facebook Community
A vibrant community of over 2,700 parents, who support one another through difficult times, share advice, encouragement and stories.

Flyer inviting parents to attend a Power2Parent information session
Our programme where parents meet fortnightly to learn how to support a child or teen struggling with mental health.
Are you an Early Help Practitioner or participate
in Team Around The Family meetings?
If so we recommend you talk to parents about our Power2Parent Groups.
These groups are informal, parent led, drawing on lived experience with a focus on:

Psychoeducation
& skills training:
Guiding parents/carers to support the recovery of a young person suffering with their mental health using our clinical intervention.

Parental self-care:
Teaching parents how to care for their own mental and emotional health to best support their child.

Peer Support
Having someone who’s going through a similar struggle by your side can make all the difference. Peer support provides a unique understanding and encouragement that helps us overcome our challenges.
Our programme is currently being evaluated for Early Help accreditation. If approved, families can apply for the full cost of participating through Early Help funding (£400) and a YMHF bursary (£395).
Note: Families can access Early Help funding if they meet certain criteria, such as experiencing difficulties that impact their child’s well-being or development. This funding ensures that all families, regardless of financial situation, can benefit from support.
Feel free to email schoolsupport@youthmentalhealthfoundation.org for more information on accessing funding for a family.
