We are incredibly proud and excited to announce that the Youth Mental Health Foundation has been awarded a generous grant from the Cornwall Community Foundation’s Young Minds First Fund. We want to say a huge thank you to the foundation for their belief in our work and for enabling us to make a real difference.

This vital funding will allow us to deliver our acclaimed “Reach For the Stars” assemblies and “What’s Your Genius” workshops in three primary schools, directly supporting the emotional wellbeing of 840 children in Cornwall.

Addressing a Critical Need

This project addresses a critical and growing need. In Cornwall, an estimated 1 in 5 children struggle with their mental health. National studies show that 50% of all adult mental health problems are established by the age of 14, which highlights why providing early, preventative support for primary-aged pupils is so essential for creating better outcomes in the long term. Our work aims to provide that support before challenges escalate.

Our Inspiring Approach

Our programme is delivered in two parts. The “Reach For the Stars” assemblies are led by 21-year-old Jade Sutton, who inspires resilience by sharing her own lived experience with mental health challenges in a relatable way that destigmatises the topic for young people.

Following the assemblies, our “What’s Your Genius” workshops provide a space for pupils to foster self-esteem by identifying their unique strengths, passions, and talents. This approach helps participants gain confidence, develop a greater understanding of neurodiversity and individual differences, and feel inspired to pursue their dreams.

Making a Positive Change

Thanks to this grant, 840 children will be equipped with vital coping mechanisms. The positive changes will manifest as increased self-belief, reduced anxiety, and a more hopeful outlook for the future. Crucially, by destigmatising mental health, our project makes it easier for young people to talk about their feelings and seek help, particularly as they approach the often-challenging transition to secondary school.

We are so excited to get started in the new school term and see the positive impact this project will have.

Once again, a heartfelt thank you 🙏 to the Cornwall Community Foundation for making this possible.
